Farmer's Tale | Lao PDR

These two farmers got injured in an accident with submunitions while working in their rice fields. Farmers are often faced with an impossible dilemma: either they risk cultivating land that may still have unexploded ordnance in the soil, or their families go hungry. Consequently, large stretches of land often remain uncultivated. Xiengkhuang Province, Lao PDR.

Almost 50 years after the end of the war, Lao PDR is still heavily contaminated with explosive remnants that are found everywhere and pose a particular threat to children. Saravan Province, Lao PDR.

Cluster munition remnants are often hard to see and merge with the surroundings as time goes by.
